Medical Records Coordinator: Description


 

The Medical Records Coordinator allocates all day-to-day transactions associated with the office’s records-related functions. This can include file organization and maintenance; implementation of retention schedules, inactive records storage, and records destruction while following all HIPPA regulations and rules.

  • Preparing patient charts and collecting information and records from patients and other medical offices
  • Ensuring that the medical records are organized, exact and comprehensive
  • Creating digital documents of paperwork and stowing the records electronically
  • Filing the paperwork and reports of inpatients quickly and accurately
  • Safeguarding patient records and ensuring that they comply with the HIPAA standards
  • Transferring data into the facility’s central system database
  • Knowledge and understanding of the credentialing and payer contract negotiations process.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel) and Outlook.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, staff, and contacts outside the organization.
  • Ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilities
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful conditions
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent people skills while following corporate policies and procedures
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Previous experience in a similar office/hospital setting.
  • Work may involve some driving/traveling to assigned clinics or corporate office.
  • UniVida computers, standard and customized software applications and tools.

This position works under usual office conditions. The employee is required to work at a personal computer as well as be on the phone for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit, walk, stand. The incumbent must be able to work extended and flexible hours. Physical demands include the ability to lift to 50 pounds.
