Nurse Practitioner: Description


UniVida Medical Centers is seeking a Nurse Practitioner. Responsible for handling patient appointments and performing routine examinations to ensure patient health. Their duties include speaking with their patients about healthy lifestyle choices for their age, completing diagnostic tests to help diagnose and treat patients for injuries or illnesses and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to maintain updated medical records.

  • Providing primary care to patients
  • Performing initial examinations, including physical exams and patient observations.
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill perioperative patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability, including but not limited to serving in the first assisting role.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Setting up and monitoring medical equipment.
  • Ordering and administering diagnostic tests.
  • Communicating test results to patients and their families.
  • Recording patient medical histories.
  • Operating and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

  • Ability to Handles the physical demands of the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborates with nurse practitioners, registered nurses, doctors, and other medical professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Develops strong relationships with patients and their families and has a stellar bedside manner.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent people skills
  • Well-groomed, professional appearance
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Comfortable with performing massages on diverse clients

  • Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licenses in the state.
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty is preferred.
  • National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited agency.
  • Master’s in Nursing required, Doctor of Nursing preferred.
  • Two or more years of clinical experience as a nursing practitioner at a physician practice or in a hospital with a related specialty is strongly preferred.

  • Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending, stooping, speaking and occasional sitting
  • Heavy lifting: up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up, with assistance if needed
  • May need to lift or turn patients who are disabled, with assistance if needed
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone.
